Katy Perry on Why Her $7 Lipsticks Are Seriously Amazing

We've already heard about Katy Perry's brand-new cat-inspired CoverGirl collection called Katy Kat, of course, but the moment has arrived-it's finally here. I got my hands (and lips and lashes) on the highly anticipated lineup of lipsticks and mascaras (launching in June), and I'm pleased to report that they're great. The lipsticks have a demimatte finish that helps the color stay put without feeling dry, the range of colors is impressively bold for a drugstore line, and I'm full-on obsessed with the electric-blue mascara that perfectly captures the essence of Katy Perry. I recently sat down with the star at a launch event for the line in New York City (she's in town for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala). Decked out in the chicest pair of cat ears I've ever seen, Perry offered up tips for pulling off black lipstick, how her style has evolved over the years, and why she seriously loves cats. "I love their independence and their unique quality, and I guess I relate to them if I were to have to be one...or some kind of spirit-animal bullshit. I'd be a cat," she says.
